PROGRAM A COMPACT LAKESIDE WEEKEND RETREAT
LOCATION WALTER E. LONG LAKE, AUSTIN, TX
SEMESTER FALL 2010

This 300 ft² structure was for the shore of Walter E. Long Lake, formerly called Decker Lake. The lake was originally created by damming Decker Creek to be used as a cooling system for the plant. The ambient temperature of the lake is raised as much as 20°F at certain times of the year in order to accomodate the plants cooling needs, devastating the ecosystems in the lake and surrounding area. Given that the power plant is still operational and within view of any visitors of the lake, I felt this history was worth acknowledgment. The small structure was designed to confront the power plant on the opposite shore, directing views, attention and axis toward the plant.
