PROGRAM CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT LANDSCAPE INTERVENTION
LOCATION GALVESTON, TX
SEMESTER SUMMER 2011

The intervention is a reaction to the condition of the site and creates an environment that would heighten awareness of what it means to inhabit Galveston Island. The leading informants of my design were sea level rise, the high rate of vacancies and abandoned structures, and the fragility of maintaining a city on a barrier island. A series of embankments were meant to serve as an early memorial to a city gradually more threatened by storms and global warming. Nearby industry and the surreality of a sunken city also heavily influenced the design of the park.
